When I saw that Jeff and Ned were stepping away from this Tumblr, I had a moment of MUST HAVE IT.
Things like this shouldn’t fade away. While the life of any meme is unpredictable, I felt that Fuck Yeah Sharks should last forever. Because sharks are awesome.
Jeff and Ned were excited to hand it off to an “oceanic conservation society.” I …sort of fit that description. I work with a team of internet nerds over at Upwell, a project to “make the ocean more famous online.” We’re nonprofit, but don’t have the same encumbrances that many other nonprofits have. We swear a lot, we are unapologetically silly and tend to wade into shark-infested waters.
I’m excited to take over the reins. Most of what you see here won’t change. We might, occasionally, point to shark conservation stuff, where it makes sense in context. After all, something to the tune of 80 million sharks are killed by people every year, and we dont think that’s very cool.
